Gotta Love it!
Morrissey, singer and long time vegetarian banned any meat from being served before, during or after his concert! Check out the article on New York Post http://www.nypost.com/seven/03262009/gossip/pagesix/face_free_fare_161327.htm Staff and crew would be fired if they eat meat, even from room service. Now that's a concert I'd love to go to Tuesday, March 24. 2009Time flies, and veggies go bad fast
Wow, I can't believe I haven't posted anything here since October! Damn.
Time sure does fly. As I get older, I notice that every year passes by faster and faster. Pretty soon I'll be 70, wondering how I got there. Life as I know it has not changed much, however, recession has finally hit home and I'm working hard like everyone else to stay afloat and doing my best to keep a positive outlook. Here in the soychick household, we've cut back on excess spending and save where we can. Back to basics everyone calls it. Living within our means, cutting out the fat and staying sane. In my attempt to save money, cut out waste, be green and maintain my health, I've found a great item! To save my wallet, I try to buy only what I need, and when I can, I buy in bulk. Unfortunately, in the past, I used to waste a lot of veggies this way. Luckily, my sister dragged me to a tupperware party and introduced me to this: Fridgesmart containers. ![]() Just to let you know, I'm not promoting this or getting paid by them...I just really love the product. My fruits and vegetables last 3 times as long so I don't waste it. I haven't tried any other types of products, but I'm sure other types work well too. Whatever you choose...doesn't it just make sense to make your veggies last longer so you can eat it all...especially if you buy in bulk at places like costco? Wednesday, October 29. 2008Homemade Veggie Sprays
Just as many others, we're trying to save money where we can and eat at home more often. So in an effort to save money and be healthy, I started looking into veggie washes so I can make sure I'm not putting our health in danger while trying to save.
Whether I'm buying veggies at the local grocer or premium organic vegetables, I still need to wash them. Especially with E coli outbreaks that occur due to farms using contaminated water. =>a gross side note and yet another reason to go veg is the article from London-basd journal Nature states that a steady diet of red meat makes the body more susceptible to a virulent form of intestinal bug that can cause bloody diarrhea and even death. EW. Need any more reasons to keep eating beef?? Read more: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20081030/ts_afp/healthdiseasefoodpoisoning So whether we're vegan, vegetarian or an omnivore, we need to wash our veggies, so instead of buying those pricey vegetable washing detergents, I decided to look up a home made recipe so I can make one from ingredients I already had at home. I have found 2 recipes: Homemade Veggie Spray#1 2 tbsp lemon 2 tbsp baking soda 1 cup water Homemade Veggie Spray #2 (this one is said to draw out critters, especially in organic fruits and veggies. I hate it when I bite into worms!) 1/2 cup vinegar 4 tbsp salt 2 cups water Pick version 1 or 2, mix and pour into spray bottle. To clean veggies, spray and let sit for a few minutes then rinse. NOTE: Don't spray mushroom...they'll just suck up the water. For these little suckers, scrub them lightly with a brush or wet rag...using minimal water. That's it! It's green, environmentally friendly, free of animal testing and CHEAP! Happy Eating.
