Sogo Tofu

Sogo Tofu

Located in an interesting Asian shopping mall, its wedged between music schools and student learning centers.

This place is not so much a restaurant or deli but a vegan market shoved into a small store. The place is packed to the gills. Beyond the deli style “point point” foods, there are huge freezers of vegan food, fresh food in the fridge with soymilk, tofus, pickles, sweet tofu custard, dim sum type items and baked goods like buns and rolls too.

For dinner, I headed toward the counter thinking that it would be a “point-point” joint where you point at what you want and they put it on your plate. It was in fact like that, but the weird thing was, nothing was kept on heat. Everything was in metal trays, sitting out in the open. I’m not positive, but I thought there was food regulations how food is kept?? Even though the food was out, I decided to give it a try and ordered a few items. If you choose to try this, please make sure to nuke your food in the microwave just in case :) .

From my visit, I recommend the rice noodle chow mein (it was similar to Filipino Pancit – the bihon variety), Tomato “chicken”, scallion cakes and the hot sweetened soymilk. The servings are huge, so expect to take some home!

Although the non-heated food is a bit concerning, I’d go again to pick up frozen and chilled items to cook at home, especially desserts. There is just too much to try here. :) enjoy!
