Tuesday – Sunday:
(Lunch) 11:30 am – 2:30 pm
(Dinner) 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm
This is a stylish Asian Fusion Filipino restaurant located a few blocks from downtown San Mateo with parking available in the rear. The staff is friendly and the service is great. It’s mainly an omnivore joint, but there are a few vegan options that are clearly labeled “vegan” on the menu. I had them both
For appetizers, I had the Crispy Tokwa which are fried cubes of tofu which are glazed with a teriyaki-like sauce. Highly recommended! For dinner, I had Mushroom Afritada which was a portobello mushroom and tomato veggie medley piled on a flaky pastry. I paired it with the Garlic Rice which is also vegan made from oil, garlic and soy sauce. It was quite tasty.
Next time I’m definitely getting the Crispy Tokwa and the Garlic Rice again. Yum. Enjoy!

A Thai restaurant located smack dab in the middle of downtown San Jose. Close to the Camera 12 movie theater and next to Starbucks. They have live jazz on Saturday nights and validate for parking too, which makes for a nice perk on date nights.
Decorated with traditional Thai decor, they also have a “shoes off” section for a unique experience. The staff is nice, but food is a bit slow coming out. The good thing is, they have a vegetarian section which you can modify to make vegan if you choose. I recommend the vegetarian Pad Thai minus the egg, Tofu with sweet basil, brown rice and mango with sticky rice for dessert. Enjoy

Fast service, cheap priced thai restaurant that has a vegetarian section on their menu. They have vegetarian soup, noodles and a few other items. I ordered the Pad Thai with no egg. It comes with generous portions of tofu and lots of veggies. The taste wasn’t stellar, but if its open till 1am, I’m not complaining
Enjoy.

Yet another reason to go visit LA again. I haven’t been there yet, but being Japanese, its a must that I give this place a try.
The cuisine is based on traditional Buddhist vegetarian food but with a flare. Looks good. Can’t wait to try it.
Revised:
I finally had the chance to visit the Shojin restaurant in LA. It’s located in the Little Tokyo Shopping center and parking is abundant. The mall is rather deserted, but the restaurant itself filled up while we were there. The restaurant is stylish and the service was great. The lunch menu was limited so I was a bit disappointed, but the food was good. I tried the Tomoto, Basil, Cheese sandwich (which was yummy) and the tempeh curry. The curry was served with a bowl of miso soup (which was a treat) and a caeser salad made of vegan cheese which was quite tasty. The tempeh was a bit bland, but the curry had some spice to it and was quite good.
For dessert I had the Green Tea “moss” cake which was kinda dry, but the azuki bean portion of the cake was yummy
Over all, I thought the restaurant was a great and worth visiting again next time I go back to LA. Enjoy!

Vegetarian Dim Sum!
My friends constantly want to go eat dim sum, but I got tired of eating the same two dishes of dim sum so I looked it up and YES…Vegi Garden was found!
They have a great selection…a massive menu of all vegetarian (mostly vegan) items on the menu! This place is great. For dim sum we ordered – sticky rice, fried taro, steamed shrimp dumplings, spinach dumplings, and all kinds of other goodies. They also have Noodles (try the “chicken” tomato chow mein…super Yum!), porridge, rice dishes, desserts and more! And before you leave, don’t forget to try the Black sesame seed mochi balls …reeeeeally good.
Yes, I was happy to have found this place. Definitely going back again soon, especially since my carnivore friends loved it too! Friendly service staff and lots of food options makes this place an A+. Some items have egg, but its clearly indicated on the menu so no worries! Enjoy!

Tastes a lot like Thai food, but slightly sweeter. Many of the meat dishes can be substituted with tofu…vegan/vegetarian friendly! Full of flavor and tasty dishes.
My recommendations:
The Noodles with Tamarind sauce and tofu (their version of Pad Thai)
The Hot and Sour soup with Tofu
The Eggplant and Tofu
For dessert the Mango and sticky rice is vegan too! Enjoy!
